The Serbian Association of Pain Research and Treatment [SAPRT] organized the yearly international scientific symposium on the subject of visceral pain. The symposium “Mechanisms, clinical manifestations and treatment of visceral pain” was held on October 26, 2013 at the Gallery of Matica srpska, Novi Sad.
Through plenary lectures and workshops, experts from the country and abroad presented effective therapeutic strategies and pointed out the significance of personalised, multidisciplinary approach that leads to better care of visceral pain patients.
As one of the moderators of Session 4, which was dedicated to acute visceral pain, Snežana Davidović MD, who works as a doctor in the Centre for palliative care and palliative medicine “BELhospice”, held a workshop titled “Visceral cancer abdominal pain as an urgent condition”. Through her introductory lecture, as well as several case studies, she emphasized the importance of the palliative approach and the pain treatment of terminally ill cancer patients in accordance with care standards.
