Tenth Jubilee Volunteer Training and Fifth Anniversary of the Volunteer Center

mar 17, 2017Education, Volunteers

10th Volunteer training was held from March 13th to March 16th 2017, and it was finished by 27 people. After this training, the number of people educated for voluntary engagement in the field of palliative care rose to 182.

We can proudly say this is a unique volunteering service in Serbia which exists for 5 years already and it keeps growing and developing.

BELhospice center has been introduced into the Volunteering Organizations Record in the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social support in 2012, where it submits a yearly report about its activities. For 4 years, social worker Mijodrag Bogićević was the coordinator for volunteers, and he founded and systematized the volunteering service with the support of all the other employees of the center.

From the first steps and 4 volunteers who gave support to patients and their families, up till today the number rose to over 40 volunteers who are actively engaged and who have gathered more than 3000 volunteer hours. Over 150 volunteers has given support to the fundraising team and the organization itself. At the last charity BELhospice ball in November 2016, over 50 volunteers participated in it and they came on stage to accept gratitude from all the guests and from our Center for their commitment and devotion which are essential for our mission.

In the 10th Volunteer training, 27 trainees had a chance to acquire basic knowledge about the history, principles and goals of palliative care, fundraising, medical, social, psychological and spiritual aspects of care, the role and the importance of volunteers, and also watch a few educational videos, all of this done in 4 days.

During the training, the participants showed a high level of motivation and interest in the topics they were listening to, and for the future challenges of volunteering. Based on the evaluation reports, we can proudly state that our lecturers, and the whole training, have gained the highest marks from the trainees. The participants especially liked the lectures about spirituality, held by our contributor, theologist Jovan Blagojević, and the psychological topics, held by our contributor psychologist Tamara Klikovac.

We are happy that the BELhospice volunteering service will be even richer, gaining new humane and enthusiastic people who will, with their participation in all 3 sections of volunteering, devote their free time and support to the patients and their families, the fundraising team and the organization itself.

Volunteer training

The 10th BELhospice training for volunteers was realized with support of Royal Norwegian Embassy in Belgrade, and we use this opportunity to express our gratitude.
