BELhospice Charity Ball raised 74,000 EURO

The 6th traditional BELhospice Charity Ball „A night on Broadway powered by Samsung“ was organised in partnership with Terazije Theatre at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. It raised 74,000 Euro that will be used to support the work of BELhospice centre and to build the first inpatient hospice in Serbia.

On Saturday, 28th November, BELhospice organised the most successful Charity Ball so far, with a support from Ambassadors of Belgium, Great Britain, Canadian, Mexican, United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Croatian Embassies, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Belgrade, Honorary Consul of Ireland, as well as representatives of corporate sector, artists, celebrities and others willing to contribute to collecting donations for terminally ill cancer patients and their families.

BELhospice Charity Ball “A Night on Broadway powered by Samsung” gathered more than 300 guests. This evening, spirit of Broadway was brought to the stage by this year’s partner of the event, Terazije Theatre, with artists Bojana Stefanovic, Dragan Vujic Vujke, Ivana Knezevic, Slobodan Stefanovic, Dusica Novakovic, Zarko Stepanov, chorus and orchestra of Terazije Theatre conducted by maestro Milan Nedeljkovic and the ballet with the choreographer Milan Gromilic and the entire night was directed by Mihailo Vukobratovic.

The Ball was organised with the support of general sponsor, Samsung, as well as companies Astra Zeneca, Manpower Group, Novartis, Muehlbauer, Pfizer, MK Group, Air Serbia, Etihad Airways, Vojvodjanska banka, Telekom Srbija, KPMG, TeleGroup, Bel Medic, Opportunity bank, Generali, Puratos, Actavis, and Jones Lang LaSalle.

Milan Vujovic, Head of marketing for SEAD Region in Samsung Electronics, stated – „Samsung is dedicated to education, employment, but also health and medicine globally and in Serbia as well. We always strive to help those who need help, and I hope that this evening is another step forward towards the promotion of palliative care in Serbia and achieving broader social support.“

This year’s Ball was also the opportunity for BELhospice to announce plans for the start of a capital campaign for building the first inpatient hospice in Serbia for terminally ill cancer patients, and to present the members of the Honorary Patrons Committee gathered to support this capital project.

H.E. Mr. Leo D’aes, Belgium Ambassador and Chairman of the Board, said – „Many countries are weak in this area, this process required great amount of efforts from the governments, volunteers and professionals. When they are working together with diplomats then it is a wonderful challenge.“

Milena Dravic, the star of Serbian theatre, addressed the guests at the ball saying that there are many ill and scared people without any support and that the dignity which BELhospice gives to its patients must be a human right and thanked everybody for being there for the act of good.

Ivana Todorovic reminded the guests that BELhospice for the last 11 years has been providing free palliative care services for over 1500 terminally ill cancer patients and their families. BELhospice has been also involved in the education process of both professionals and public. It is necessary to build a new day-care centre and inpatient unit in order to improve the quality of life of those patients and their families.
