Representatives of the Center for Palliative Care and Palliative Medicine „BELhospice“ have had an exceptional opportunity to attend 21st meeting of the Health and Family Committee, which was held on 18 December 2013 at the Parliament of the Republic of Serbia. The reason for convening the session was to present the results of the research of the European health consumer index for 2013 (Euro Health Consumer Index – EHCI 2013) and to analyze the health care system in Serbia in order to define the steps needed for its improvement.
According to the results for 2013, in terms of the quality of service delivered through health care, Netherlands among the European countries is in the first place, and Serbia, which is at the bottom of the list, was advised to improve its health system by introducing greater transparency principle which would involve disclosure of information on hospital quality and on the work of the hospital staff.
This meeting was attended by the representatives of BELhospice center, the director Zoran Purković and social worker Mijodrag Bogićević. BELhospice aims to attend all the subsequent sessions of the parliamentary body, with the intention of more active engagement in the creation of an adequate legal framework and other conditions needed for the development of palliative care in Serbia and the construction of the first hospice in Serbia.
