Dr Snežana Davidović (BELhospice doctor) received a bursary scholarship to attend a course at St. Christopher’s Hospice in London, UK.
The course consisted of 2 weeks: one Multi-Professional Week and one Clinical Placement Week. The Multi-Professional Week hosted 35 attendees from 18 different countries and several disciplines (nursing, medicine, social work, psychology, chaplaincy, physiotherapy and management), who explored together key principles of palliative care and multi-professional working and team building.
Only the 6 bursary students participated in Clinical Placement Week; they rotated with several members of the hospice’s professionals in their daily activities and responsibilities, both in the hospice (inpatient unit and anniversary centre) and in the community (home visits).
It was a great learning experience and dr Snežana is going to use the acquired information and skills in her daily clinical practice and will analyze with her team what she has learned about the hospice unit organisation in order to adapt and develop a model that will be appropriate for our country.
It is interesting to point out that she is the fourth employee of BELhospice center who had the honor to attend this course. (Dr Natasa Milicevic attended this course back in 2001, Dr. Leonida Mirilo in 2008 and Director Zoran Purković in 2012). This shows how St Christopher’s Hospice, as centre of excellence, appreciates and supports the important role of BELhospice in the development of palliative care in Serbia.
