In the period from 3rd to 5th December 2017, representatives of the BELhospice Centre, Director Vera Madžgalj, nurse Bojana Vučković, Social worker and Volunteer coordinator Katarina Sivčević and Fandraising Manager Milica Đustebek were visiting Graz, the capital of the Styria, in Austria. The aim of the visit was to get acquainted with the model of organization of hospice and palliative care in Styria, ways of financing, as well as examples of good practice regarding the cooperation and networking of the health and social institutions with hospices and civil society organizations.
Our team had an opportunity to visit the Albert Schweizer Hospice, the University Clinic and the umbrella organization for hospice and palliative care in Styria, in Graz.
Albert Schweizer Hospice is organized within the Gerontological Centre as an independent institution providing day and stationary hospital services. BELhospice staff had the opportunity to get acquainted with the practices of the professionals and volunteer team, the way of financing and the services provided within the hospice.
Finally, a working meeting was held with the representatives of the umbrella organization for hospice and palliative care, during which the coordinator Johann Baumgartner presented the history and development of hospice care in Styria, the Austrian model of hospice and palliative care as well as various models of financing hospices in various regions of Austria which were good examples that could possibly be used in the process of opening the Hospice in Serbia.
This visit was realized thanks to the financial support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Norway in Belgrade.
