Almost 3000 attendees from 60 countries gathered on 18th May in Madrid, on the opening of the 15th World Congress of European Association for Palliative Care (EAPC).
This year’s Congress was dedicated to palliative care development and review of developing recognition of importance of palliative care in Europe and world.
Congress gave an opportunity to attendees to talk about palliative care progress, to debate on how palliative care approach is developing globally, to estimate integration of palliative into health care systems and to verify, change and develop holistic approach.
Serbia and BELhospice were represented at EAPC Congress in Madrid by Mijodrag Bogicevic, BELhospice social worker and Head of Palliative Care Team. In addition to attending various parallel sessions, open panels and expert meetings, Mijodrag also had a chance to meet the most important representatives of world and EAPC hospice movement.
„Being a part of EAPC Congress is of great value to me on both professional and personal level. Out of many conference experiences, I would like to single out knowledge and views of professionals who have more than 30 years of hospice work experience, especially those involved in providing social care, bereavement and volunteer support, as those are my professional interests. Learning about development experiences of building of organized and encompassing hospice care in other countries was of great value to me.
As general conclusion, I would like to put emphasis on importance of hospice and palliative care integration into Serbian health system and recognition of non-profit organizations as palliative care providers, as that is the practice in all countries with developed palliative care.“
We would like to thank Erste Foundation from Austria for making EAPC Congress participation possible to our representative.
