At The International Journal of Palliative Nursing Awards 2014, in collaboration with Macmillan Cancer Support, held in London on the 20th March, BELhospice won the first prize for Development award. The IJPN awards celebrate achievement and excellence in the work of nurses and other members of the multidisciplinary team in palliative care.
Since its launch in 1995, International Journal of Palliative Nursing (IJPN) has been committed to promoting excellence in palliative and hospice care. It is now established as the leading journal for nurses working in this most demanding profession, covering all aspects of palliative care nursing in a way which is intelligent, helpful and accessible, and so useful in daily practice.
The journal has a strong international focus. It is represented by an eminent international editorial board and articles are commissioned internationally to encourage the sharing of practices and innovations worldwide, and to raise awareness of the different cultural influences on palliative care.
For that reason this award is even more important for us because it represents the acknowledgment for the work of BELhospice centre on the development of palliative care. IJPN stated the following at their web site „Development Award, 1st Prize: The BELhospice Team, BELhospice, Serbia. The multi-disciplinary team at BELHospice have been at the forefront of the development of palliative care in Serbia, as the only non-governmental organisation in Serbia dedicated to the provision of palliative care. They established an education centre in 2006, and have so far provided training to over 200 healthcare professionals. Members of the team were also involved in drafting the National Strategy for Palliative Care in 2009.“
