The building of the future hospice center in Mali Mokri Lug provided the venue for the BELhospice annual award to be presented to the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway, H.E. Arne Sannes Bjornstad.
“Thanks to the support of the Kingdom of Norway in the form of a two-year grant program totaling 117 224 €, we have taken care of 1500 cancer patients and members of their families. Moreover, we secured over 4 500 free of charge home visits, as well as 8 800 telephone consultations. This program also helped improving skills and strengthening the organization’s capacities to carry out these important activities as well as innovating services in the field of palliative care of cancer patients in advanced stages of illness and members of their families”, noted director of the BELhospice center, Vera Madžgalj.
Also speaking at the event, Ambassador Bjornstad said that “palliative care is respect for human dignity. I am grateful for the award, but it is actually the BELhospice employees and volunteers who deserve the award.”
On this occasion, BELhospice and BENU Pharmacy, recognized as a socially responsible partner, signed a long-term cooperation agreement that includes the general sponsorship of the BELhospice team at the Belgrade Marathon and the support of the BELhospice Center through donor boxes in pharmacies across Serbia.
This important event was also supported by Brankica Janković, the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, who supported the Right to Dignity Campaign for the promotion of palliative care in Serbia, and underline the importance of the development of palliative care in Serbia and the importance of the BELhospice Center.
Chairman of the BELhospice Honorary Patrons Board, Belgian Ambassador H.E. Leo D’aes, thanked the Norwegian Embassy for the assistance provided and underline that the next activities of the BELhospice center will be directed towards both the provision of services and the establishment of close cooperation with the relevant ministries and institutions of the system, with the aim of improving palliative care.
