Sensory play in paediatric palliative care was the focus of a visit by the renowned British organisation The Flying Seagull Project, which works with children with developmental disabilities, as well as children receiving palliative care, through play, music, movement and creativity.
Their team visited Serbia for the first time in early June as part of the Super Sensory Balkan Bonanza tour, during which they travelled to 13 cities across the country. The tour also included cooperation with BELhospice, with visits to twelve children receiving our care, as well as a workshop for parents and current and future professionals.
During the visits, the children’s rooms were filled with the sounds of guitar music, colourful balloons, soap bubbles and play. Through music, colours, movement, touch and different materials, the activities were adapted to each child’s abilities and needs, encouraging sensory enjoyment, relaxation and connection for the whole family.
“Sensory Play in Palliative Care” Workshop
The workshop on sensory stimulation and communication with children, held at our premises, brought together more than 30 participants, including parents, representatives of NURDOR, Oblačak and Music Art Project, as well as students from FASPER. Through interactive activities, group work and the exchange of experiences, participants explored how sound, touch, different materials and play can open up new possibilities for communication and connection with children.
Thank you to the fantastic team at The Flying Seagull Project and to all the participants for the shared learning experience and exchange of knowledge, once again showing just how important play and connection can be in paediatric palliative care.
