When it’s most difficult – BELhospice restores dignity, peace and strength
There is one place in Belgrade where care, support, humanity and dignity are nurtured every day. That place is BELhospice – the first specialized center for palliative care in Serbia, which has been bringing relief to those facing the most difficult moments for two decades.
For its exceptional contribution to the community, BELhospice is the winner of the prestigious Golden Plaque Dobročinitelj 2025, within the national campaign Best in Serbia. The award was ceremoniously presented at the opening of the first humanitarian BelgrAID festival on Dorćol Platz, in early April, in front of numerous partners, donors and community members.
“This award truly surprised us and made us deeply happy. We are proud that our work and the values we live every day – care, solidarity and compassion – are recognized and supported by the community. This recognition means much more to us than an award – it is a confirmation that we are on the right path and an incentive to continue even more dedicatedly, with even more faith, energy and empathy,” said Dr. Aleksandra Marjanović, executive director of the BELhospice center.
Since 2004, when it was founded, BELhospice has provided free palliative care to adult patients suffering from malignant diseases, as well as to children with severe, life-limiting conditions. A team of experts consisting of doctors, nurses, caregivers, psychologists, social workers, physiotherapists, and volunteers is dedicated to providing comprehensive support that includes medical, psychological and social assistance, as well as spiritual support, in accordance with the specific needs of each patient and his family.
BELhospice center provides families with orthopedic aids, while the Day Care Center offers additional psychosocial support through workshops, educations and meetings that, through socializing, restore a sense of meaning and value in every day.
Through educational programs intended for specialists, as well as continuous awareness raising about the importance of palliative care, BELhospice actively contributes to the development of a more humane approach to treatment in Serbia.
BELhospice provides its services completely free of charge exclusively thanks to the help of donors, partner companies through the support of humanitarian events and campaigns.
